Not only am I inviting you to learn to surf (yes, YOU!), I’m inviting you to learn to surf in a foreign country you may not have considered visiting before. I’m inviting you to spend time in airplanes, buses, and on boats. I’m inviting you to immerse yourself in nature, in the rainforest, in the ocean, on a remote island. I’m inviting you to do all of these things with people you do not yet know. And I’m inviting you to be flexible, open, and adventurous enough to be present for whatever happens.
Any of those things, by themselves, may be outside your current comfort zone. And together, taken as a whole, that’s already a lot.
But on top of that, I’m also inviting you to fully immerse yourself in this experience––and then bring it home in a way that will inform the way you live the rest of your life.
This IS a dream vacation, but it’s so much more than that: this is an invitation to live a bigger, more adventurous life. Highlights of the 2024 Surfing Your Edge Experience
Before the Retreat:
We will set the stage for your transformation in several exciting ways, beginning with a one-on-one coaching session as soon as you sign up to determine your goals, fears, and hopes for this program, as well as an individualized preparation plan. I will provide suggestions for preparing for learning to surf as well as activities to begin the transformation process and set the stage for your experience.
As a group, we will begin getting to know each other through group coaching sessions in July to begin building the runway for the transformative retreat.
The Retreat:
This eight-day adventure begins just outside Panama City in the mystical Soberania National Park where we will spend our first two nights together in the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, nestled in a pristine natural environment on the Chagres River where we may enjoy sightings of wild parrots, capybaras, caiman, monkeys, and sloths. You’ll be immediately transported out of your everyday routine, allowing your usual worries and concerns to drift away. Already, new ideas about who you are will become possible and ready for you to try them on.
Then, we’ll travel together by private transportation to our surf location, Hotel Santa Catalina on the Pacific Ocean. You’ll be inspired by the world-class surfers surfing the point break in front of the hotel, while you take surf lessons from encouraging and supportive ISA-certified instructors at a more gentle beach break just a few minutes’ walk from your room.
You’ll be inspired to release your playful side and feel awed by the wonders of the natural world as you spend a day snorkeling with sea turtles and island hopping, including a visit with crocodiles, agoutis, and capuchin monkeys at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Isla Coiba--an island so rich in biodiversity, it rivals the Galapagos. If you have been hoping to slow down and re-engage with the natural world, this will be the perfect opportunity.
Throughout the week, you'll explore the edges of your comfort zone, get reconnected to the parts of yourself you truly want to share with the world, and laugh a lot! You'll eat delicious food prepared with the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients and unwind with yoga, lounging by the pool or in a hammock, or with a mindfulness session.
The trip concludes with our final night in another UNESCO World Heritage site, the historic district in Panama City known as Casco Viejo. We'll re-engage with the quicker pace of modern life as we stroll among historic buildings and pick up charming souvenirs in the shops before enjoying an urban evening and final celebration dinner.
After the Retreat:
We will continue our journey together once we have returned home with another individual, deep coaching session, as well as three additional online group sessions. We will share our breakthroughs and challenges, and rely on our shared wisdom to help us navigate the choices in front of us, remember who we are and why it's important to surf our edges, and take steps to integrate our insights into our daily lives. From this place, you'll create your unique, life-changing transformations and feel the momentum carrying you forward!

The 2018 Surfing Your Edge Experience retreat in Panama was amazingly magnificent, marvelous, perfect! It wasn't so much what we did, it was how I felt. Once I got there, I felt like I could do anything! It was a feeling of perfect freedom.
When I saw Kristine’s post about the program, I almost didn't sign up because I didn’t have a passport, didn’t think I could leave my teenage son, and had no idea where I would find the money––but I knew I was ready to live my life again.
